About the artist
Carmen Carpena was born and raised in Mexico, where her passion for art and painting was something she unfortunately had to set aside. Living in a country with a struggling economy, she was advised to pursue a different career to secure her future. However, her determination to become an artist never wavered.
She began her journey by focusing on realism in her paintings, but often felt constrained by rules, shapes, and forms, which diminished her passion and made it feel like a job. In a bold move, she chose to follow her heart instead of adhering to the expectations of others, recognizing her need for artistic freedom.
This decision led her to develop a distinctive style and creative process that often diverges from conventional norms. Her unconventional approach is a source of inspiration, allowing people to connect with the sense of freedom that permeates her work.
The perspectives of life profoundly influence her art. She navigates the chaos of unplanned, messy patterns, creating something beautiful and harmonious regardless of the circumstances. Her art style and technique reflect the essence of life itself. Carmen Carpena emphasizes that we often become blind to the beauty around us when faced with chaos, focusing primarily on the negative aspects.
Finding beauty in uncertainty, she instinctively organizes what is before her, revealing the underlying beauty in her surroundings. Each of her final pieces tells a story, and the process of creating them weaves in rich details that contribute to that narrative.
